The Houston Sabercats are a professional rugby team playing their first inaugural season this year. In January they announced they would have a combine for high school players. 23 players would be picked and would represent the Houston Sabercats Academy Team and play other Major League Rugby teams. Around 50 players showed up to the combine from all over Houston. Clubs like Katy Barbarians, Lamar, Lake Houston, West Houston, and Woodlands had players represented.

Cy-Fair had the most players out of all of the other clubs, making the 23 man roster. Eight players from Cy-Fair made the team. Senior James Luecke, the captain of the our rugby club, made it, along with co-captain junior Lane Rouse. Third year veterans senior Julius Kelly and junior Jonathan Carranza. Second year players juniors Wyatt Campbell and Clayton Crist, and first year players like seniors Zeke Garcia and Aidan Morrison. They will play games representing the Sabercats on their jerseys against other MLR teams, and from here on out put Cy-Fair on the map for rugby.
